Schlachtplatte anyone?

Just got back from Beijing today... supposed to meet Adrian the Towkay/ex colleague there as he flew over from Shanghai for some business meeting. However, we didn't get to meet up as he was too busy entertaining the other Chinese towkays...
Maybe not, but all i imagine bout entertaining in China is sitting in a KTV lounge with bottles of XO or maybe Chivas n xiao jies n cigars... *shudder*

Anyway, Sunday is family dinner day, as much as i'm in town. And The Daddy has been trying to find out the address of this authentic German food joint which he heard about on the radio.

FYI, The Daddy is always quoting Ah Hong these days... the name will come up like 3 times in a short discussion in the car bout food, place to go... until i couldn't stand it one day n burst out asking :"who is this Ah Hong?!? You r not talking bout my female cousin it's obvious. But i do NOT know any other Ah Hongs!!"

Yup... then The Daddy finally let on that Ah Hong is this DJ dude on Love 97.2FM, chinese radio station for old fogeys like The Parents. Wah lau! only a DJ but The Daddy keep calling him Ah
Hong Ah Hong like some close pal or family friend or something.... sigh.... but so cute lor. ;)

Well, armed with only the knowledge that the said German makan joint is along East coast Road; The Daddy went to rackey, on his many drives from the airport after dropping me off, n finally found it last week! He raved to me proudly when i got back a few days ago, thus the plan to go to Werner's Oven today.

The address is
6 Upper East Coast Road #01-01/02, but to put simply, it's just opposite the row of cafes at Siglap Road. Very easy to find! It's actually a bakery cum restaurant specialising in home-cooked German cuisine.
We ordered the Schlachtplatte. That's a big plate which consists of : one knuckle, one smoked sausage, one farmers sausage, one wild garlic sausage, two kassler, two nurnbergerle, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and brezel (which are like pretzels). Yum yum....

The Daddy look so happy... LOL.

We tucked in. The sausages were fabulous! All of them! But i was particularly impressed by the sauerkraut (the pickled cabbage thingy on the left side of the plate), maybe cos i was expecting something too sour; too pickled like my experience in Vienna... But Werner's did their sauerkraut just right! ;D

Have you tried the pork knuckles at Marche? Well i did, n it kinda had that strong porky taste which made me gelat quickly. But Werner's pork knuckles were addictive, n made you feel like you wanted more crispy skin complete with fat. Needless to say, The Daddy succumbed n picked up the bone crunched up the crispy bits around the marrow...

The
nurnbergerles were pretty much like ham steak; which got a little too salty on its own after awhile. We learnt later that we were supposed to eat them with the brezel; which should be served before the platter came but they forgot! Oops, boo boo. But the people at Werner's were nice n offered to pack 'em for us. I'm munching on one now as i type... *hrumchhmmm*

Oh! Must order some beer too! They serve Paulaner Dark n Light beer there. The meal would be incomplete without beer! We had a pint of each. heh heh...

The bill came up to only $120, the platter itself costing $75. I think that's alright! : )
Oh, n for those who are interested, they are open Tue-Sun, 8.30am-10pm.
Apparently they do the boiled pork knuckles too; an alternative to the deep fried crispy ones we had, though you have to order at least 20 mins in advance. Call before you go cos they can get quite crowded on weekends!

Rightey... I'm missing the crispy knuckles already... n the velvety sauerkraut. haha.... but i'm gonna call it a nite now... my peepers are so closing... -.- z z z ...
